I began using Jasper AI back in August 2021. It was the first AI tool I adopted, and it truly revolutionized my content creation workflow forever. Writer’s block forever became a thing of the past! But AI software has come a long way since then, and you may wonder how Jasper will compare in 2024 and beyond.

Jasper AI has continued to evolve over the years, especially as more competitors have entered the market. To adapt, it has pivoted its focus somewhat to cater more to specific niches, making it an invaluable valuable tool for certain types of businesses. But is it right for you?

To find out, stick with me for this Jasper AI review, which contains my brutally honest opinion after having used it extensively for two years to help me create AI generated content for my blog – as well as whether it’s still worth considering in the AI landscape of 2024.

Overview of Jasper AI

Jasper AI was founded by Dave Rogenmoser and uses the GPT language models created by OpenAI. Developed using advanced artificial intelligence technology, Jasper AI is designed specifically to help content writers and marketing teams do what they do faster and more effectively.

Although it uses the same language models as the popular ChatGPT, Jasper has been fine-tuned specifically for writing marketing copy.

Like many AI tools now, Jasper can generate AI content that is creative, grammatically accurate, and plagiarism-free in the blink of an eye. With access to search engines via Jasper Chat, this platform can quickly come up with new ideas, suggestions, body content, and much more.

Jasper AI offers a wide range of pre-written templates, which help simplify the content creation process. Its user-friendly interface makes it easy to navigate, regardless of your experience level with AI-driven tools.

The Skinny: Is Jasper AI Worth It?

The short answer is, yes! BUT, it also depends a lot on what you’re using it for.

No AI tool is perfect, and Jasper suffers from a lot of the same disadvantages that virtually every other tool does, such as occasionally “hallucinating,” providing inaccurate information, and overusing certain turns of phrase. (“In today’s world,” “moreover,” “in summary,” etc.)

But beyond that, each AI tool has its unique advantages and disadvantages, and Jasper AI is no different. Here’s a quick snapshot of what I do – and don’t – like about it:

Pros

  • Unlimited words per month
  • Capable of creating high quality content
  • Incorporates the latest language models (GPT-3.5 & GPT-4)
  • User-friendly interface and templates
  • Multiple ways to create AI generated content (via Jasper Chat, content editor, templates, & workflows)
  • Slaps at short-form and sales copy
  • Data privacy
  • Surfer SEO integration

Cons

  • Less efficient at long-form AI content creation
  • A bit expensive
  • Brand Voice capabilities are a bit limited
  • Limited lookback/memory compared to ChatGPT

Key Features Overview

Long-form Editor

The long-form editor in Jasper AI used to be a great place for generating articles in a Google-doc-like environment. Nowadays, though, I find it works best for compiling outputs. By using the left-hand tabs with “Create” and “Chat,” I can create content using templates and then easily paste them into the editor. Although it’s possible to generate content within the editor, I’ve noticed that outputs produced with Jasper Chat are often superior.

The documents you create with the editor can also be shared with others who have a “seat” on your Jasper plan, making it ideal for collaboration.

Templates

Two years ago, templates were where it was at. I especially loved their paragraph generator and one-shot-blog post templates. But now I find they are better for creating short-form content.

For example, they’re a quick solution for tasks such as writing product descriptions, crafting tweets, email subject lines, and creating YouTube descriptions. They ease the burden of prompt engineering and make it easy to knock out high-converting copy. But they aren’t as effective for writing content that’s more in-depth.

Jasper Brand Voice

To ensure a consistent brand voice Jasper allows users to train the AI on specific aspects of their brand identity or business using the Jasper Brand Voice feature. By using the Voice & Tone section, I can easily instruct Jasper on the tone and writing style I write in by analyzing a passage of my choice. Additionally, the knowledge base feature lets me include custom information snippets that can be accessed via Jasper Chat or templates.

Jasper Chat

My favorite feature is Jasper Chat, which lets me have a back-and-forth conversation with the AI, similar to ChatGPT. The “Speed” and “Quality” tabs seem to prompt the AI to use different language models. Selecting “Speed” produces a faster output, while the “Quality” tab can yield better results. The “Enhance Prompt” button helps improve the prompt for superior outputs, making Jasper Chat more user-friendly than ChatGPT.

Integrations

One of my favorite things about Jasper is its integrations with other tools that make the content creation process more seamless, namely:

Surfer SEO

Inside the content editor, you can enable SEO mode on the left-hand side and connect your Surfer SEO account. (If you don’t have Surfer, I highly recommend it!). Surfer then will show you what you need to do for SEO optimized content in the Jasper editor for Google search using its proprietary algorithm.

Grammarly

You can toggle on Grammarly to check your Jasper blog articles for spelling and grammar. Remember, the AI is trained to write like a human, and as a result, it writes the way we do, which is often less than perfect.

Copyscape Plagiarism Checker

Every AI tool should have something like this, because it’s crucial that you sweep your AI content for plagiarism. Even though instances of plagiarism are very low, they do happen – usually, it is just a string of words that is too similar to something published elsewhere on the web, and often totally out of context. Nevertheless, it’s good to make sure your content is 100% original and this tool is a quick and easy way to ensure that.

However, the Copyscape integration is an add-on so you have to top it up with cash in order to use it. The good news is it’s very affordable; it’s $0.03 for the first 200 words, then $.01 for every extra 100 words, so even $10 will last you a long time.

Image Generation

You can also use Jasper Art to create unique images for your projects, which is as simple as describing what you want Jasper to create and clicking the “create art” button. This was a novel feature a year ago, but there are lots of art generators on the scene now that use the same Dall-E technology (also by OpenAI). But it comes with all subscription levels and is a nice-to-have feature.

Jasper’s Chrome Extension

The Chrome extension allows you to take Jasper with you anywhere on the web. This means you can conveniently use it to write emails and social media posts, streamlining your content creation process even further.

You can technically use it with other editors like Google Docs to write a blog post, but I find it’s not as efficient as staying within the Jasper editor as you don’t have all the tools at your disposal. It is better for quick, short-form content.

It’s easy to install the extension, you just need to visit the Chrome Web store. You can also watch my detailed review of the Jasper Chrome extension here:

Pricing and Trial Options

As someone who has explored various AI writing tools, I’ve noticed that Jasper AI is a bit on the pricier side than some other options. Their plans begin at $39 per month if you pay annually, or $49 per month for a monthly plan. This pricing is for their Creator plan, which has some limitations compared to their more advanced plans.

For instance, on the Creator plan you don’t get any additional seats so you can’t share, and you get fewer Brand Voice options.

However, the Creator plan is suitable for freelance writers, content creators, and small business owners.

The Teams plan, comes in at $125 per month or $99 per month if you opt for annual billing. This plan offers more features and is well-suited for larger teams or businesses with multiple users.

There’s also a business plan for larger businesses, but pricing is not disclosed on their website and I imagine it may vary depending on the business requirements.

The good news is that Jasper does offer a 7-day free trial, so you can take a week to test out the tool and see how you like using it before committing.

My Experience with Jasper AI

I used Jasper intensely nearly every day for two years. Here are the highlights of my personal experience with it in that time.

Sales Copy

I had a great time using Jasper AI to create slappin’ sales copy, especially for my landing pages. It helped me come up with compelling text that grabbed the attention of my target audience and boosted conversions. It’s especially good at AIDA and PAS frameworks, which are tried and true methods for hooking your readers.

Here is a video demonstrating how I used it to write a sales page for a digital product:

Blog Posts

Jasper AI was helpful in writing blog posts, from the blog post outline to the content of the body. However, I had to develop my prompt engineering chops to produce longer articles with more than 2,000-3,000 words. Crafting these extended pieces became more manageable when I developed workflows or “recipes” for generating long-form content quickly.

These recipes are essentially a series of prewritten instructions and commands designed to create a specific type of content quickly. For instance, I had recipes for how-to posts, sales pages, food recipes, product reviews, about pages, and more.

But for some reason, Jasper got rid of the recipe feature in 2023. However, you can still create makeshift recipes and workflows in a Google doc or Jasper editor and just copy and paste the instructions.

Near the start of 2023, Jasper Chat became my preferred method for writing blog post articles, but there was a limitation due to the bot only remembering around 6000 characters of context (about 925-1200 words). This character limit made it challenging when writing longer blog posts because Jasper would start forgetting what was written earlier in the article. Although it’s possible to remind the AI of context, it can be inconvenient and slightly tricky – especially when you compare it to ChatGPT, which can remember back thousands of words.

Templates & Workflows

To be honest, I didn’t use the provided templates or workflows much once I got good at prompt engineering, mainly because I had my own prompts and customized workflows that I found more helpful.

However, I think these inbuilt templates and workflows could be an invaluable resource for beginners just getting started with Jasper AI. They offer a way to get good results without knowing much about how to use it.

Jasper AI Support and Community

I would be remiss not to mention that Jasper AI has a great support staff, both in the official Facebook group and their email support. I have sent them many questions in the last two years, and the Jasper team always get back to me within a day or so.

My Results with Jasper

In the end, Jasper AI played a pivotal role in reviving my blog and helping me regain lost SEO traffic after the 2020 Google update. It significantly reduced the time I took to write articles and blog posts, and the end products ranked well, thanks to the integration with Surfer AI. Though I loved using Jasper AI, I must emphasize the importance of providing context and vetting its outputs.

As far as AI writing tools go, Jsaper is a great choice, especially if you’re involved with high-volume content production or working in an agency setting. With proper context and subsequent editing, this AI platform can significantly improve your content quality and overall writing experience.

However, if you’re a solo blogger like myself who is focused on long-form content above 2000+ words, you may want to look for an AI writer that specializes in comprehensive article writing with greater memory/lookback capabilities.

Who is Jasper Best for?

Teams and Agencies

As a Jasper AI user, I find that it is particularly beneficial for teams and agencies. This AI copywriting tool helps streamline the process of generating and sharing documents, which can be a significant advantage for marketing teams and agencies with high content output. It’s a great way to ensure the small business owner, who often wears many hats, can have a robust and efficient content marketing strategy.

When discussing AI tools, there are many to consider. However, the focus on collaboration makes Jasper stand out. With easy sharing capabilities, it’s suitable for agencies working on content for multiple clients that require a high level of coordination. Similarly, marketing teams can quickly distribute and approve content internally, making the most of their resources.

Beginners New to AI Tools

Jasper is an excellent option for those who are new to using AI copywriting tools. With a user-friendly interface, it doesn’t take long for anyone to get started.

When using Jasper, beginners will appreciate that they can quickly navigate through the features without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, the platform offers several templates and samples, making it effortless for first-time users to get familiar with the tool.

The collaboration features make it a great fit for marketing teams and agencies creating content together, while the user-friendly nature of the platform helps beginners quickly adapt to using AI tools for content creation.

Best Jasper AI Alternatives

KoalaWriter

In my experience, KoalaWriter has been an amazing tool when it comes to AI writing software, especially for creating long-form content-form articles. The impressive capabilities of this tool allow it to generate blog posts more than 3,000 words long.

To achieve the best results, some setup knowledge is necessary. (I have a video tutorial that can help.) This AI writing assistant can become a handy tool for content creators seeking to produce extensive and well-written content.

Surfer AI

Another great alternative to Jasper AI is Surfer AI, which is particularly useful for generating informational content optimized for search engines.

However, it’s essential to mention that this tool is among the more expensive options in the market. Despite the cost, Surfer AI’s ability to create SEO-optimized articles quickly makes it a valuable tool for content creators focusing on search engine optimization.

ChatGPT

For most tasks, my go-to AI writing tool is ChatGPT Plus. Its various features and customization options make it one of the most versatile and affordable alternatives available. Priced at only $20 per month for the Pro version, this AI writing assistant delivers incredible value. The tool is suitable for a wide range of writing tasks, making it a practical choice for diverse content needs.

Jasper AI Review Conclusion

In the end, my Jasper AI review is mostly positive because it’s a high-quality tool with tons of practical applications. It can generate ideas, create a blog post outline, or even write long form content with a little extra prompting. If you suffer from blank page syndrome, Jasper could become an invaluable asset in your writing process.
